As of this moment Aetna Medicare NJ is still in negotiations to keep the Virtua Health System in their network so customers can continue to utilize services at Virtua’s many facilities. A deal has not yet been reached and as a precaution Aetna has sent letters to their customer base in NJ notifying them of the potential loss of the huge healthcare provider.
Negotiations continue and Aetna is hoping to maintain this relationship, however customers have to act now if they want to continue seeing their doctors that may be exiting the network. Medicare’s Annual Election Period ends on December 7th and members of the Aetna Medicare plans will be locked for 2023 at that point regardless of whether the negotiations provide a positive outcome or not. If you are a member of Aetna Medicare in NJ you may need to act now to ensure you can still use your current medical providers in 2023.
If you miss the December 7th deadline you will have another opportunity to make changes to your plan in the Medicare Open Enrollment Period that stretches from January 1st to March 31st. At that time you can change from one Medicare Advantage plan to another effective the following month after making your choice. However if you have appointments with Virtua providers in January this could be an issue. Reach out to one of our NJ agents today to find out if you are able to make changes.

VIRTUA – AETNA INSURANCE CONTRACT
We have reached an initial agreement in the contract renewal between Virtua Health and Aetna. This means that Virtua facilities will remain in network for Aetna members as of January 2023.
Both parties focused on avoiding uncertainty and disruption for consumers and settled on critical terms prior to the contract expiring. While the contract has been extended 90 days to give ample time for final details to be worked out, we are grateful to have avoided any beginning-of-the-year service interruption.
We appreciate the calls and concerns from the community that Virtua remain in network with Aetna. Your voice in this matter along with our long-standing partnership with Aetna prevailed as both parties found ways to compromise to best serve the community.
We will keep your apprised of any further developments.
Thank you for your continued trust in Virtua Health.
