Medicare Supplement insurance, also called Medigap, can help pay certain out-of-pocket costs in Original Medicare. It does not replace Original Medicare and cannot be used with Medicare Advantage.
- You generally need Medicare Part A and Part B before buying Medigap.
- Plans with the same letter generally provide the same standardized benefits, although premiums and service can differ.
- Modern Medigap policies do not include Part D prescription drug coverage.
- The yearly Medicare Open Enrollment period for Medicare Advantage and Part D is not a recurring Medigap enrollment period.
